The Odd Egg

Benjamin’s favourite book is The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett, so I made him a a birthday cake in the sahpe of the egg.

It was a carved chocolate cake, hand-painted, with a modeling chocolate duck and scarf.

Hourglass and Peony

My birthday indulgence! Extended height, carved middle tier piped with royal icing in a filigree design.  Sugarpaste stripes on the bottom tier and sugar peony and hydrangeas on the top.

A lot of work, but good fun.  I used four new techniques in the making of the cake and practised others.

Swan Cake

A swan cake for my daughter’s 8th birthday.  The swan is made out of modelling chocolate  following a tutorial by Jessica Harris.  The cake is chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream and decorated with vanilla buttercream.

Blue and Cream Hearts

This cake was for my son’s dedication.  Top two tiers were lemon cake filled with lemon buttercream; bottom tier was chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling.  Decorated with modelling chocolate hearts and accompanied by sugar cookies covered in modelling chocolate, and home-made candy bracelets.

Purple Roses Wedding Cake

A small 4/6/8 vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and fruit filling.  Covered in white chocolate ganache and sugarpaste, decorated with handmade gumpaste roses.

Ladybirds and Flowers

A chocolate cake for Laylah’s birthday.  With her favourite little beasties all over it, and a special surprise inside – a cascade of Skittles fell out when the cake was cut.
